Retail Facilities and Shopping Malls
The CCD Alliance team has had significant experience in the design of security solutions for retail facilities and shopping centres/malls. These extend from security audits of Pacific Fair on the Gold Coast for AMP in the late eighties to the development of the security solution for the Dubai Mall, the worlds largest built area shopping.

Al-Ghurair City upgrade and expansion
In 2006, Viridian Consulting was commissioned to document an upgrade and addition to the existing mixed use retail complex. This involved the addition of approximately 230,000 Sqm of floor space incorporating 3 basement parking levels, 3 levels of retail, a 5 star hotel tower and apartment tower. The client wished this to be procured as a design construct, so Viridian performed a comprehensive risk

This involved the addition of approximately 230,000 Sqm of floor space incorporating 3 basement parking levels, 3 levels of retail, a 5 star hotel tower and apartment tower. The client wished this to be procured as a design construct, so Viridian performed a comprehensive risk
assessment, documented the existing facilities, wrote a performance based specification and integration methodology and oversaw the technical aspects of the tender and evaluation process and design period. The challenges involved the upgrade and integration of the existing infrastructure, and the ability to cross-monitor all aspects of the facility while allowing independent and secure operation of each element as a stand alone entity.
Dubai Mall*
Kerran had significant involvement leading the team of the Dubai Mall which is the largest built area shopping mall in the world. The facility sits at the foot of the Khalifa Tower and spreads over 1.2 Million Sqm. During the design the security solution had to countenance upward of 60 Million visitors per year, which made it by far the most single visited complex in the world.
The mall included:
· An ice rink;
· The largest indoor salt water aquarium in the world which incorporate the largest single window;
· A major hotel;
· An indoor theme park;
· 650 retail outlets;
· A 22 screen cinema complex;
· The largest gold souk in Dubai, which would have 120 Tons of Gold on display at any one time; and
· 22,000 car bays spread over 8 multi-story levels.
All of these presented differing threats which needed to be considered in the risk/threat assessment, required to formulate a cohesive security solution that addressed not only the threats that were generated at the mall, but also considered the threats applied by the adjacentBurj Khalifa Tower.
The security technology solution is one of the largest and most complex of its type in the world. The systems integrate some of the most sophisticated sets of life safety technology uitilised in any single retail project. The complete security solution is viewed on over 3000 CCTV cameras, managed for a central security control location with multiple operator consoles.
The gold souk has for obvious reasons significant security infrastructure in place that is managed to mitigate the risks this area of the mall poses to the global facility.
